Moonshot AI shipped Kimi K3 on 16 July 2026 and it landed hard: a 2.8-trillion-parameter Mixture-of-Experts model, the first open model in the 3-trillion class, and currently the top model on Arena's Frontend Code arena, ahead of Claude Fable 5. Weights are promised by 27 July under a Modified MIT license, but the API is live today at https://api.moonshot.ai/v1 and it speaks the OpenAI Chat Completions dialect.
