On July 16, 2026 Moonshot AI shipped Kimi K3, a 2.8-trillion-parameter open-weight Mixture-of-Experts model with native vision and a 1,048,576-token context window. It is the largest open-weight model anyone has released, and the benchmarks are not shy: it topped the Frontend Code Arena over Claude Fable 5 and landed second on Artificial Analysis' agentic AA-Briefcase. Markets called it a second DeepSeek moment. Within a day, half the agent developers on my timeline were doing the obvious thing: opening their Kimi K2 code and changing kimi-k2 to kimi-k3.
