No more washing dishes or doing laundry for Airbnb hosts

Airbnb has updated its house rules policy, banning hosts from asking guests to complete tasks that require significant effort or time. This includes chores like washing dishes, doing laundry, and taking out the trash. The new policy starts with reservations booked on or after November 20th. Hosts must remove chore requests from their listings or face warnings. Some hosts have pushed back, citing health risks and guest choice, but exceptions can be made for specific situations, such as disposing of trash in bear country. This change affects how hosts manage their properties and guest expectations.
Key Points
Airbnb's new policy starts with reservations booked on or after November 20th, 2023.
Hosts are prohibited from asking guests to complete tasks that require significant effort or time, such as washing dishes or doing laundry.
A new 'rules and requests' section is displayed on listings to show hosts' requests more prominently.
Hosts may face warnings if they leave chore requests in their listings after the new policy goes into effect.
Exceptions can be made for specific situations, such as disposing of trash in an animal-proof container in bear country.
Why It Matters
The new policy affects how hosts manage their properties and sets new expectations for guests. For example, if you're a host who previously asked guests to wash dishes, you'll need to adjust your house rules or face potential warnings. Guests, on the other hand, can expect a more hands-off experience when staying at Airbnb properties.
