📚Amazon Renames Kindle Unlimited to Kindle+ for $12 Monthly
Kindle+ Adds AI Narrated Books for $12 a Month
TL;DR
Amazon rebrands Kindle Unlimited as Kindle+, offering $12 monthly unlimited reading and expanded audiobook selection with AI narrators for free to KDP authors.
Amazon is rebranding Kindle Unlimited as Kindle+, a $12 monthly subscription that includes unlimited reading and expanded audiobook options narrated by AI. Authors using Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) can have their books narrated by AI at no cost, potentially saving thousands on professional narration fees. The subscription remains largely unchanged, with the same borrowing options and reading experience, but now includes AI-narrated audiobooks. The new feature is expected to attract more authors to KDP and expand the audiobook catalog.
Key Points
Kindle+ costs $12 per month, same as Kindle Unlimited.
AI narrated audiobooks are available at no cost to KDP authors.
Authors earn money based on pages read, not downloads, through Kindle+.
The subscription includes borrowing options and reading experience unchanged.
AI narrated audiobooks expand the Kindle+ catalog without increasing costs.
Why It Matters
If you're an author using KDP, AI narrated audiobooks can save you thousands on professional narration fees. For readers, the expanded catalog means more choices without a price increase. However, the quality of AI narration versus human narrators is a key consideration.
