🛡️Anthropic Launches $0 OSS Scanner and Critical Infrastructure Defense Program

Your open-source projects just got free frontier-model security scans

TL;DR

Anthropic launched the Critical Infrastructure Defense Program and a free OSS Scanner that runs regular security scans on open-source projects using its strongest models. Eleven major security firms signed on as founding partners. If you maintain an open-source library, you can now get scanned for free.

Anthropic just opened its frontier models to the people defending power grids, water systems, and open-source code, and the price is zero. The new OSS Scanner gives open-source projects regular security scans from Anthropic's strongest models at no cost. If you maintain a library that half the internet depends on, this is the first time you've had access to that kind of firepower without a budget meeting. The bigger play is the Critical Infrastructure Defense Program. It starts with operational technology, the proprietary control systems behind power grids, water plants, and transit networks. Those systems are hard to touch. Changes are risky, and one bad patch can take down a plant. The program brings frontier models, on-site engineers, and threat research to the teams already protecting that equipment. The founding partners include Accenture, Booz Allen, CrowdStrike, Deloitte, Dragos, Hitachi, Insane Cyber, Nozomi Networks, Palo Alto Networks, PwC, and Rockwell Automation. The program is already using Claude to find and fix vulnerabilities, and it will work with a small cohort of providers to figure out which strategies actually hold up in the field. Anthropic says Project Glasswing found many bugs but has not yet cut cyber risk enough. Verifying and prioritizing fixes is still the hard part.
