Brave browser has introduced a new feature that allows users to sign up for websites and services using email aliases instead of their real email addresses. This feature, which comes with five free aliases, helps protect user privacy by preventing websites from using email addresses as personal identifiers. Ad tech companies often match email addresses to track user activities, and if a website gets hacked, users' primary email addresses can be compromised. Brave's email alias feature mitigates these risks by forwarding emails to the user's primary account without exposing the real address. Users can access the feature by clicking on an email field or right-clicking on it, and any emails sent to the alias are forwarded to the user's primary account, with Brave only processing them for spam and virus filtering before deletion. All data in users' Brave accounts is encrypted at rest, and notes saved alongside an alias are stored locally unless the sync option is enabled, with end-to-end encryption if syncing is turned on.
