Ford's leadership shakeup impacts EV plans

Doug Field, the man behind Ford's high-tech capabilities, is stepping down next month. He'll be replaced by Alan Clarke, who'll lead advanced development projects. But here's the thing: this change of guard coincides with a major shift in Ford's electric vehicle strategy. The company has announced a $19.5 billion writedown on its EV investment and discontinued several models, including the F-150 Lightning pickup truck. As a result, plans for a next-gen electric truck (codenamed T3) and an electric commercial van have been scrapped. Instead, Ford will focus on hybrids as well as its existing lineup of gas-powered trucks and SUVs. The company's new 'end-to-end organization', Product Creation and Integration, will be responsible for scaling vehicles and digital products across the company. By 2027, Ford plans to launch a $30,000 midsize truck using its Universal Electric Vehicle (UEV) Platform. But it's not all doom and gloom: by the end of the decade, 90 percent of Ford's vehicles will feature entirely new electric architectures.
