Salad Chains Hit by Cyclospora Outbreak
On July 11, traffic at Chop't fell by 7.1%, Panera Bread dropped 7.4%, and Sweetgreen saw a 3.1% decline compared to their average Sunday traffic in 2026. The cyclospora outbreak may have sickened nearly 7,000 people, with Michigan seeing the highest impact at 4,312 cases. This is bad news for salad chains as customers opt for safer alternatives. Sweetgreen shares dropped by 23.3% over five days, and some locations even posted recalls on leafy greens. The outbreak's reach could continue to hurt sales until a clear cause is identified.
