Vercel identified evidence of malicious activity on its network preceding the breach, suggesting that hackers may have been active for some time. A Vercel employee downloaded an app made by software startup Context AI, which was used to gain access to the company's systems. The breach may be larger in scope than initially thought, and more companies could be affected. Hackers relied on malware that compromises computers, including information stealing malware (infostealers). Infostealers collect and upload sensitive secrets from victim's computer, including passwords and private keys.
