🎮AI-Generated Game Wikis Flood Search With False Info and Malware Links
Your favorite game wiki might be AI slop with malware
TL;DR
AI-generated wikis are flooding search results for indie games with wrong info, data collection, and links to flagged software. Independent wiki hosts say server costs have jumped three to ten times. If you run or read a niche game wiki, check your sources and your traffic logs.
A wiki about Nighthawks turned out to be full of false information, and nobody could edit it. The catch? It wasn't a real wiki. Corrections only came through email, and the site belonged to Spaceship, a service that also sells an AI website builder. This goes beyond one bad site. A search for similar pages turned up many more AI-generated wikis targeting indie games with small playerbases. Hooded Horse, which publishes wikis for its own games, has had to fight these sites for search rankings. One was part of a collection of over 20 game wikis run by GameDB, whose creator admitted using generative AI to build them. The damage is concrete. These wikis collect data, and at least one pointed users to download extra software with a paid subscription. That software had poor reviews, and opening the site triggered malware warnings. Meanwhile, the Dune: Awakening Community Wiki logged 7 million AI crawler requests in 30 days, and server costs for independent gaming wikis have risen three to ten times.

Key Points
The Dune: Awakening Community Wiki recorded 7 million requests from AI crawlers in a single 30-day period, according to publicly available internal data.
