💻Apple Ships Touchscreen MacBook Pro Starting at $2,899 With M5 Chips

Your next laptop might finally have a touchscreen

TL;DR

Apple just released a touchscreen MacBook Pro starting at $2,899 with M5 Pro or M5 Max chips and a 2000-nit XDR display. Pre-orders open October 30, shipping November 6. If you run multi-monitor setups, the four-display support on M5 Max is the number to check.

Apple finally put a touchscreen on a MacBook Pro, and it starts at $2,899 for the 14-inch model. The 16-inch version runs $3,399. Both come with M5 Pro or M5 Max chips and a PROLED XDR display rated at 2000 nits peak brightness. Why should you care? If your workflow involves reviewing diffs, annotating screenshots, or poking at design mockups, a touchscreen changes the feel of the machine. The hinge is the sneaky part. It stabilizes the screen when you tap it, and it also keeps the camera steady on video calls when you're pulling up content. Frontend folks and anyone doing live demos will notice that. The specs are serious. The M5 Pro supports three external displays, and the M5 Max pushes that to four. You get up to 128GB of unified memory, up to 16TB of storage, three Thunderbolt 5 ports, HDMI, SDXC, MagSafe, and a headphone jack. The 14-inch weighs 3.0 pounds and the 16-inch weighs 4.0 pounds. Worth watching: Apple also unveiled a standard 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 starting at $1,999 the day before. Two big launches in two days is a lot for a new CEO, and the pricing gap between the touch and non-touch lineups will decide which one actually sells.
